Non-Invasive Vein Treatments

A common first step in vein disease treatment is the conservative approach. There are conservative, non-invasive vein treatments that address lifestyle choices in lieu of surgical procedures. Instead of taking medication or undergoing surgery, patients are encouraged to make healthy lifestyle choices, including exercising regularly, eating a balanced diet, and wearing support stockings. These steps often lead to notable improvements in a patient’s symptoms and help reduce further damage to the venous system while waiting for a permanent solution.

While conservative treatment can help patients make improvements in their vein health, it is not an effective method for removing existing varicose veins. However, patients who are unable to undergo other treatment methods may find conservative treatment a worthwhile alternative. Even though there is no guaranteed way to prevent varicose veins, regular exercise can help slow their progression and reduce the risk of new issues arising.

Intermittent Pneumatic Compression (IPC) Therapy

A few patients with venous insufficiency have an element of lymphatic edema (lymphovenous edema). Symptoms include gross swelling of the legs with marked stasis changes, including pigmentation of the skin of the legs and stasis dermatitis. These patients continue to have swollen legs with minimal improvement after treatment of venous insufficiency and venous lesions (varicose and spider veins). They need daily treatment of their legs with Lymphedema Pump Therapy. This treatment has to be continued for many months and sometimes for life. If this edema is not treated, there is a high risk of developing chronic ulcers and DVT. We help our patients get approved for this therapy. We have seen fairly good results with this therapy.
